Save and Reload a View

Save the current view

In the toolbar, click Save view.
Enter a name for the view.
Click Save.

The view saves the current scope, level, visible objects, filters, and any custom aggregations or annotations applied.

Organize Objects into Custom Modules

Step 1: Start a custom aggregation

Right-click any object at Objects level and select Associate to custom aggregation.

Create new: enter a name for the new group.
Add to existing: select an existing custom group from the list.

Create a Custom Scope

Step 1: Add objects to the canvas

Use search, Add linked objects, or Add callers/callees to build the set of objects you want to save as a scope.

Step 2: Save as a custom scope

In the Investigation panel, select Custom from the scope list. Then click Save as custom scope and enter a name.

Annotate Objects with Sticky Notes

Add an annotation

Right-click any object at Objects level.
Select Annotations / Documents.
Click Add annotation.
Type your note and click Save.

The sticky note appears on the canvas near the object.

Edit or delete an annotation

Click the sticky note on the canvas to open it. Use the edit or delete buttons.

Tag Objects, Transactions, and Modules

Add a tag to one object

Right-click an object at Objects level.
Select Tags.
Type a tag name or select from existing tags.

Add Custom Links Between Objects

Add a custom link

Right-click the source object and select Add edge.
Click the target object on the canvas.
A dialog asks you to name or type the link.
Click Save.

The custom link appears on the canvas as a dashed edge to distinguish it from analysis-detected links.

When to use custom object types

Static analysis detects code artifacts. It does not detect external systems, business concepts, or infrastructure components. Use custom object types to add these to your graph.

Examples:

An external payment gateway your application calls at runtime
A message broker (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
A business domain concept used to organize a discussion

Add Inserts and Canvas Comments

What are inserts?

An insert is a text block placed on the canvas. Unlike an annotation (which is attached to one object), an insert floats freely on the canvas. Use it to:

Add a title or description to a saved view.
Explain the context of the objects shown.
Add a note visible to anyone who opens the view.

Manage Multiple Canvases with Tabs

Open a new tab

When you drill into a node at Level 5 (or use the right-click menu to open a sub-view), CAST Imaging opens the new view in a separate tab rather than replacing the current view.

You can also open a new tab manually from the toolbar.

Click your user name or the settings icon in the top right corner, then select Preferences.

Available preferences

Landing page

Choose what you see when you open an application:

Welcome page (default): the tile-based welcome page.
Imaging menu: the Investigation panel directly.

Preferred language for AI explanations

Select the language for AI-generated explanations. Supported languages include English, French, German, Italian, and Chinese.
